Qandeel story from how it all started to how it ended has a lot of mind awaken and thought provoking factors, but most of all it reminded us that we still living in a dark age where the right can still not be depicted from the left, where murder is still justified and honor is been redefined.
Qandeel reminded us that we are a nation that wants to eat our cake and have it, A double standard nation where in one hand we want to proclaim self righteousness and the other hand we want to enjoy the glamour of the fetish world, we want to be a Maulana and Rock star and want to wear the hijab over bikini.
We promoted what we rejected and enjoyed what we despise…… and the price tag was her life
But however, was she a role model? well she clearly was not, she clearly was not an example a Nation like ours want to follow, and I think it’s time our females understand that empowerment is not going half naked, neither is it been vulgar over the internet, there are better ways and areas to invest empowerment and bring about the change we want to see in our Nation.
But since the price has been paid, its time we have a look at honor killing with a clearer lens and cry out the dishonor and crime in it, especially in remote areas where this has become a culture. It is time we actually empower women and respect their rights.
Her acts were not of a role model, Her murder was uncalled for, there was no honor in her killing, Honor killing needs to be abolished, True role models need to be encouraged.
